           What We Do

  • The Hotline: 802-254-6954.  It's confidential and can be called 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  After 4:00 PM weekdays and all day on weekends, crisis calls go directly to our answering service; calls are then passed on to an advocate who will return them right away.  Our hotline is also accessible by TTY.
  •
  • The Shelter:  It's a safe, confidential, emergency space for women and children.
  •
  • Safety Planning:  We offer individualized safety planning based on our belief that women are the experts in their own lives.  We support what women feel is right for them, whether they are in, leaving or have left an abusive relationship.
  •
  • Advocacy:   We are able to provide support to women in various areas:  we meet women at the hospital who have been sexually assaulted; we accompany women to Family Court; we offer welfare advocacy and housing assistance and we are there to help women and children figure out options and navigate all of the community support systems that are available to them.
  •
  • Outreach:  We have an advocate who can meet with women anywhere in Windham County if they are unable to get to our Brattleboro office.  Additionally, she is in an office in Bellows Falls every Monday to meet with women seeking our support.  It is possible to set up a time with her by calling our main office: 802-254-6954.  For safety reasons, we are unable to meet women in their homes, but we will work with women to determine a safe location in their area.
  •
  • Education & Prevention:  We are happy to meet with and/or present to any school or community group interested in learning more about our work.  We have presented all over Windham County on various topics: healthy relationships, dating violence, violence against women, sexual assault, the media's impact on violence, the effects of domestic violence on children.  We also believe in the importance of treating ourselves well.  We have tried to incorporate this into our work by offering groups and activities that will be fun for women and give them a much needed break.  Check out our calendar for this month's offerings.
  •
  • Support Group:  We offer a drop-in peer support group every Wednesday from 12:00 -1:00.  In addition, we offer various other support groups which may include: educational groups, writing groups and/or a group specific to issues of sexual assault. These groups are five to eight weeks in length and are held at different times and locations throughout the year.

  • All of our services are free and confidential.  For safety reasons, we will not respond to any requests for information from outside agencies or individuals regarding women who are working with us. This means we won't confirm or deny that a woman is or isn't working with us.
